Mt. Carmel Center - the Beacon of Hope for many of the homeless, those on the streets, the hungry, those needing friendship and respect.  All of us here at OLMC really love our brothers and sisters!
Television is warming on a cold day. Meals are free.
Computer Classes are Free!
They are held Tuesday through Saturday

And there's "Hands-on Time" during opening hours.  First we get students started on Microsoft Word.  After they become skilled in Word, our teachers will work with students to determine the next steps to reach their goals.  Continual learning is essential and important.  It lands our students good jobs.

  • Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Center was founded by the Legion of St. Mary, a Catholic group committed to visiting the poor, the sick, those in jails, troubled families, and others in need.

  • Fr. Axer, S.J. of Seattle University, and spiritual director of the Legion, became the energizing force establishing the Mt. Carmel Center.

  • Mt. Carmel opened its doors in 1986 with the blessing of Archbishop Hunthausen of Seattle.

  • Fr. Axer appointed Leo Werlech to be the Executive Director of Mt. Carmel Center.

  • Mt. Carmel is completely staffed by volunteers.  There are not salaried personnel, although we do give stipends for specific works.

  • Spirituality is a very important part of the Center.
